What are fathers’ rights?
Fathers’ rights is a legal term that refers to the parental rights fathers have.  Fathers’ rights are usually discussed during family law issues like child custody and child support.  In the past, mothers seemed to have more rights during family law matters.  However, now days, both mothers and fathers have equal rights during family law cases. 

Can fathers receive child support?
Yes, in some cases, a father can receive child support payments.  For example, if a father is awarded sole physical custody of his child, he may receive child support payments from the mother of his child. 

Can fathers get custody of their children?
Yes, it is common now days for fathers to get custody of their children.  In the state of Oregon, family court judges will want to place the child with the parent who is most able to protect the best interests and overall well-being of the child.  Therefore, if a father is able to raise a child or provide more substantial care for a child than a mother could, the father will most likely be awarded child custody. 

Can a husband collect spousal support?
Yes, a husband may be allowed to collect spousal support.  For example, if a husband stayed at home and took care of the children while the wife worked and grew in her career, the husband may be allowed to collect spousal support because he would be considered dependent.

Should I get a paternity test?
If you are unsure if you are the father of a child, you should consider getting a paternity test immediately.  Paternity is extremely important when it comes to things like child support and child custody.  For this reason, it is imperative that you establish paternity, as you may have to deal with these issues in the near future and will want to be prepared.
